A local joiner is giving me a quote for a kitchen. He's left me a Howden's brochure but there's no indication of price on any of the kitchen styles.
I've heard that Howden's give tradesman a lot of discount and I will never know if my joiner passing the discount on to me.
Should I be wary?

Howdens is trade only.
Ask the joiner to agree to charge you at cost for the kitchen, and back that up with receipts.0 -
the brochure doesnt give prices...which kitchen range do you have in mind and from that we can probably tell you if its cheap, mid or expensive in the scheme of howdens?
other factors such as soft close drawers, pull out larders etc will also push up your costs.
Typically your fitter will get up to 80% discount on the basics on the ranges and you need to agree with him what portion of the discount is being passed back to you when fitted.
From memory, greenwich is the budget range...burford and saponetta are mid, and tewkesbury and glendevon arethe most expensive...but someone may come along and correct that as I say its only from memory!
Last year we had a burford kitchen installed in a rental property...thats mid range cost of the units came to around £2500 and we then paid fitting on top....I think from memory including tiling work that we also had done the end result came in at just under £5k with some extra worksurfaces in the utility area.frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

Thank you. I've found 2 styles I like--The Burford white and the Tenby. I'm keeping the freestanding cooker, washing machine and fridge feezer, and the existing layout, but will need the electrical points moving slightly and some tiling. Probably need some new flooring but I don't think that would be included in kitchen fitting and I'd probably get that done seperately?0 -
Ask for a quote on both the burford and the tenby...although I think tenby will be slightly more expensive....once they come back with a price via your fitter dont be afraid to ask for slightly different combinations if you want to stick to a particular budget.
We had a planner who came out and wanted to put every single gadget and combination in,possibly to inflate the price but I stuck with my original layout and asked specifically for similar things that wouldnt be so expensive.frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!
