I'm just nosying on behalf of my daughter who is due home next week and will be living at home.
She has just graduated uni and has spent the summer in the US working. She has been applying for jobs while there and has a couple on interviews lined up when she's back in England.
If for some reason, she doesn't get a job then she will have to sign on. However someone told me that is up to 8 weeks before she would get any money?! Really??

Around 2 weeks is normal, but it could be as soon as a few days.
It's paid in arrears, so she'll need to satisfy the conditions of benefit, have those checked when she signs, before money is released normally.0 -
For me, 6 weeks is normal. It took them 6 weeks to sign me off, which they weren't supposed to do, just suspend my claim. THey are totally usless and don't believe any thing they tell you about time scales.0

As long as you are not getting child benefit she can sign on straight away, who told you 8 weeks? She might get a Habitual Residency Test, which might delay payments, BUT there is NO 8 weeks - who told you that???0
