Can anyone help please? I have just downloaded a free Office software package but I am getting the message " WINDOWS CANNOT OPEN THIS FILE . LIBRE OFFICE_4.1.0_WIN X86man"
When I select the web service to find the correct file to open the file, up comes "FILE TYPE UNKNOWN. Windows does not recognise this file type."
On searching the web I get lots off options from a search engine but do not know which one to choose.
I have had a new hard drive installed recently hence the need to get an office package, so other programmes I now need may have been lost too.

What is the size of the file that you have downloaded?
I rather suspect that you have only downloaded the Torrent file.
Give us more details of the machine. The brand and the full model number.0 -
First you need to find out what the file extension for the file is, just check the properties and see what it says for type of file.
its possible some kind of compressed file that requires to you extract it first0 -

Did you get it from here? It's supposed* to look like this:LibreOffice_4.1.0_Win_x86.msi

Direct link
It does indeed appear to sometimes feed you the wrong file. So delete the one that you downloaded and try using my link.0 -
remember thats a 32 bit file your downloading , are you on 64 bit?0

At a guess it is a Linux .man file which is a manual or help file. I think that they are basically text filesThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Yes -Tanglefoot- , it was the LibreOffice package I was trying to open.
Main Installer 205MB (Torrent,Info)
Libre Office Inbuilt help 5Mb (Torrent, Info).
I have no idea what Torrent means. I got the "cannot open this file" message after downloading the Main Installer file but once I had downloaded the Inbuilt help file too it all came together and a shortcut for the whole package appeared on my desk top.
Libre Office seems to be working, so thanks for the help.0
