You would be better off with a virtual address or real small office unit.0 -
Please remember that under the Distance Selling Regs you must have a 'proper' address to give to your customer as part of the prescribed pre contract information under the act. The OFT do not consider a PO Box address is sufficient. See top of of page 6 of the OFT guide

The OP has never at any point said he wanted to hide their address. Put yourself in their shores, you have a workshop at home with a lot of very valuable product that a burglar can easily put in their pocket. Would you be able to sleep at night?
For the OP, as I said, I am currently engaged in setting up a business centre with virtual offices and units. From the legal point of view as I checked with counsel you are OK under all regulations if you have registered one of these places that are registered under the HMRC scheme.
You can register your office at one, take an address and providing you make it clear that works are done elsewhere in your paperwork, you do not have to disclose on your paperwork your trading address, but nothing else. Thats the Counsels opinion I have taken for my client.
So look for your local place, paying £20-40 a year is nothing compared to not having someone visit your home at 3am0 -

Certain high risk trades, such as jewellers, have greater protection under the PO Box system than normal users. Cant find a link right now but did try and track down someone and the normal number you call to get the physical address advised this and gave a link to confirm it.
I do agree with others though that some people will be put off by the PO Box address and a virtual address would be better. You may find however obviously check any insurances etc are suitable for the value of the goods potentially being sent to them etc.0
