ground maintenence

Hi, not sure if I am in the right bit? I could really do with some advise, seem to be making such a mess of this and getting worse :( We have many debts and are trying really hard to pay them off, no credit cards for almost 4 years :) The house we bought 6 years ago has the grounds maintained by RMG. We had never heard of them at the time, but we were told that we would pay £100 a year there abouts and the grounds would be looked after, also pay for lighting. The grounds are not looked after very well. We had statements from RMG for the first couple of years with a positive balance. (When we moved in phase 2 of building was beginning) At the end of 2009 we had a letter to say the builders had covered the costs of the grounds as a gesture of goodwill, then we had a bill for over £300 to be paid in the next month. I contact RMG to ask for an explanation. To cut a long story short, the work they do is very poor, I have never had any explanation of the bills, my bills are a lot more than to £100 we were told. In asking for a breakdown and complaining about the very poor service I have had charges add to the account. I have explained about our debts and offered an income and expenditure break down, but not interested and if we don't pay in full we will be charges again. We have had £2500 added to our mortgage by RMG the outstanding amounts we owed and charges added. We will not be able to pay future bill now either, I really feel that we have to pay the amount added to our Mortgage asap. We had made good progress in reducing our debts, but now they are going to spiral out of control and I don't know what to do. We have put all our money towards paying debts and have very little money left over for even food. I have never experienced a company so unwilling to help, I feel very bullied by their tactics and don't know what to do next. This is beginning to take over my life and I don't see how to improve our situation. Any advise would be very gratefully received. I don't know how we can pay the extra on our mortgage and do not have any money now to pay next years RMG bill, we will be £1000's in debts again by the end of the year :(

I think this would be better in the debt part of the forums. What RMG are doing seems legal, maybe not very co-operative of them to not come to some agreement regarding payments though. When you bought the house you were told there would be management fees. Is there not a residents committee who controls what RMG do and what they charge? We have that where I stay and the committee keep very good control of what is done an how much it will cost the residents. We dont use RMG though. We have Peveral.
  • Thank you I will copy it over to debts, no there isn't any kind of committee, they seem to charge what they like for little work and add charges every time I question what they want the money for :( Very hard to get any kind of advise from anyone and I am not doing a good job of sorting it for myself :(

You need someone to sit down and go through this carefully, calmly and objectively either a friend or a perhaps citizens advice.

It sounds as if the longer you leave it the worse it is becoming.
  • Yes I think you are right, it is very hard to find helpful people to speak to about debts :( I do feel I have made it much worse :( but also feel very unfairly treated! No one said things are meant to be fair ;)
