bank account with fraud history

A few years back i was silly enough to allow my bank account to be used for fraud with natwest. the bank account got closed and i tried opening one with satander a few months after with no success.
I am now in a very good and stable job and looking to build my credit and discipline myself with my finances. I have not tried to apply for a new bank account in the last year or two. I have recently registered on the electoral roll and it is yet to reflect on my credit file. I had a default of about 250 pounds which i have settled and should go off my file in 2016.
I want to open a basic bank account and would like to know what the realistic options are. i have read barclays/coop/nationwide may be a good start. i do not want to apply now when i may not receive.
There is no information held with CIFAS against my name so a bit confused as well.
if there is a record of fraud history, where would it be held. its neither on my credit file nor with cifas

CIFAS are the only ones that record that kind of fraud. So there is none (I think CIFAS markers may drop off after a year anyway).0 -
thanks a lot. is it possible to check with CIFAS if there was any record ever held against my name? do they provide such info0

I'd expect not many banks would want to risk your custom with a history of fraud unfortunately.
However you could go into the banks and ask?0 -

If the CIFAS entry on the OP's credit report is clear as they say, it's going to be the defaults that are the killer.
So a basic account with pretty much anyone bar RBS Group would probably go through fine. However nobody can really guarantee this.
Turning up to a bank and saying "hello I have a history of fraud will you open an account for me" is likely to be unproductive to say the least, unless your aim is to see how many incredulous looks of disbelief you can get in one day.urs sinserly,
