Just to add re: fertility, you'll find that the affect of PCOS on it varies from woman to woman and there's quite a few things they can do before it gets to the IVF/adoption phase.

The main issue with PCOS and fertility is ovulation and there's drugs that can make you ovulate if you don't at all.

Whilst there's never a cure, it is something treatable and the doctors will treat the symptoms you want to treat. When I was first diagnosed I was given Dianette, which is a contraceptive pill that reduces acne and hirsuitism.

It was also recommended to me that I follow a low gi diet. Basically every food is given a number between 0 and 100 according to how (in labratory conditions) people's insulin levels reacted to eating enough of the food to give them 50g of carbs. Pure sugar has a rating of 100, meat has 0/not tested as it has no sugar and potatoes are 70+, pasta is 40-50.
Keeping insulin levels low and steady is important for me as PCOS can be linked to insulin sensitivity- I say linked as nobody knows which causes which.
Insulin tells your body to store calories as fat - if your body is too sensitive to it, you'll find it very easy to put on weight and very hard to lose it.

    Hi Rozmister
I had not heard of HS, but like other posters, it sounds very familiar, I have had two ops to remove them and I also got told it was an ingrown hair. I have PCOS and was diagnosed when I was 17, there was very little information on the syndrome back then - Lol! I can recommend looking at this site for support and information www.verity-pcos.org.uk

Just to let you know I have two DDs, one was conceived without help (after losing 3 stone) and one with some help - so don't dispair!

I was diagnosed with PCOS when we were ttc but I wasn't getting pregnant. We were told we would need IVF as I wasn't ovulating regularly and I also have a blocked fallopian tube. A month before our appointment with a fertility specialist I found out I was pregnant naturally. I now have 3 children. My friend who also has PCOS now has 3 children all conceived naturally. It took me 2.5 years to conceive my first and took my friend about 8 years.
Wins so far this year: Mum to be bath set, follow me Domino Dog, Vital baby feeding set, Spiderman goody bag, free pack of Kiplings cakes, £15 love to shop voucher, HTC Desire, Olive oil cooking spray, Original Source Strawberry Shower Gel, Garnier skin care hamper, Marc Jacobs fragrance.
