My son is left handed, cooks a lot and has never had a problem with our normal can opener or with various basic ones used when we go camping. It never occurred to us or him that left handed ones existed.

I suppose it depends what you're used to.

isn't opening tins a pretty simple task that can be done via the wrong hand?
It's the only thing that DD struggles with. I have a butterfly one and I tried to use it with my left hand and couldn't manage it.

I now have one where it sits on top and lift lid off which I will get DD to try next time we need a tin open. I tried it left handed and it's tricky but doable.

I'm left-handed and use one of these:

There's no handles to turn and it just needs a rocking action to open the tin.I still need to use my right hand but it's not awkward to use.
  • I'm a leftie and I don't have a problem using the regular tin opener.

We have both versions of the butterfly can opener in the drawer - so have to check which one we're getting out to use! I'm a rightie and don't have the same strength in my left hand, Marley is a leftie and can use either.

To be honest, I've only bought l/handed can opener, scissors & pen as "novelty" items for him for Christmas, he copes well in a rightie world. Andrew appears to be a leftie too but quite ambidextrous.
