FTB on a string budget looking for factory outlets / cheap furniture shops in and around Milton Keynes. Do you think you can help. I have been to DFS and the lot in Grafton Retail Park - too expensive!
My priorities:
a. One double/king size bed.
b. One good pocketsprung and foam mattress.
c. a dining table with 6 chairs.
d. Sofa set - 3 seator and 2 seator.
e. coffee table.
I have been to IKEA but undecided about buying from IKEA as their range is limited. There is also a store in Wolverton (I think it is called InsideOut) but not sure about their quality!

You'd be better off asking on one of the other MSE forums such as
"local moneysaving" or "shop but don't drop"

You can find genuine bargains on beds if you look on ebay. I know that many people are very wary about buying items like beds from ebay. However if you follow a few guidelines then you can save up to 75% on the shop prices:
1) most important of all make sure that the seller gives a 100% satisfaction guarantee.
2) check previous feedback for the seller, and even contact previous customers to ask them about the seller.
3) use a company who display their phone number, so that you can talk to someone about your requirements (they want you to make the righ choice because it will cost them if you return it).
4) check the sellers return policy. Many sellers charge for postage on returns.....can work out very expensive if you have unpacked a vacuum packed mattress, and you don't like it.
5) try to use a seller who delivers using their own transport. Couriers often damage or misplace goods (believe me I know from experience).
Obviously you can't try before you buy, but for the saving it is worth the risk if you follow the guidelines above.0 -

Why say that, I recently posted such a thread and found good responses from a lot of people.
Another place to search around looking for advice from the home gurus is https://www.landlordzone.com forums.

Personally, I'm starting to smell a rat:eek: with this sudden rush of 'Please advise me where to buy furniture in X area' threads. Possibly it is just that one person started it and others saw it and liked the idea so copied it, but I'm concerned it could be a way for unscrupulous posters to advertise their own websites/services. I really don't want to make wild accusations or imply that anyone who has posted on any of these threads (including me
) so far has breached the rules but what does anyone else think?

Maybe, maybe not......the problem with the rules is that if you own a store or a web site, and you sell a product cheaper than any of the other places mentioned in a thread, then you can't actually tell people about it. However I do think it is wrong if people are starting a thread just to get people to promote their stores. I have even thought in the past that companies like Argos, Ebay and Tempur have have employees deliberately leaving messages on here to try and promote themselves.0 -

Nenen, you must have a very strong nose. Is there any chance you are available for police/ military deployment? Your services would be precious given the current times.
I think most people who are asking for help on these forums are asking for referrals from other people in one form or the other. If one refers a mortgage or a vaccuum cleaner or anything similiar on these posts does not mean the person has a vested interest. So bug off!0 -

I furnished my entire flat on a shoe string budget with stuff from Ikea! If you're strapped for cash, then you can't really comment about Ikea having a limited range, because a shoestring budget wouldn't stretch much further than basics!!
If you're picky with style, then maybe just buy the very bare essentials for now (a beanbag to sit on, a tray with beanbag thing underneath to eat off etc...), then wait til you can afford the furniture you really want!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0
