Hi,

Did a search, and didnt find any information from this year.

I just have a quick question about my debit card from NatWest. I am going on holiday and want to know if it will work on the plane. I have a halifax account and I know that that debit card does, but I use NatWest as my main account, and for business banking.

Card starts with 4751 29. I think it is purple (my savings card is definitely blue and my business card is more red), and it is contactless.

Thanks a lot!

Based on the picture you uploaded I would say its the Purple Offline card so it should work on planes and trains.

  • Thanks folks. Should be alright then.

Things were way easier when they just had Electron and Maestro. At least you knew if you couldnt use it somewhere.

Its not a huge issue for most people. Almost everything is online these days, even some the classic examples of an offline transaction are now online (Spanish toll roads are good example, most of the companies now transact online) and even many planes transact online (Delta comes to mind, they do it over their gogo wifi on Domestic US flights and via Satelite when doing intercontinetal and international flights).

In the US and Canada, some credit cards are now online only as well (Especially those for those new to credit). Although in Magnetic Stripe countries (Like the US) a merchant can override the online only, they just risk chargeback but most will override.

Also you need to remember that Maestro and Visa electron (Especially) were not accepted very well internationally.
