    Afternoon all!
Today I decided I was fed up being fed up, and took my huff out on the kitchen. One shelf of one cupboard still to do, every surface cleared of unnecessary gibble, have the floor to scrub and then I will take assorted rubbish to the dump. Need some plastic bottles/containers to empty the deep fat frier that hasn't been used this year, then that can be cleaned and rehomed, needless to say we have none as the recycling bin was emptied today but will get some, suppose I could empty some tonic bottles to help the cause ;)
Next room of doom, my bedroom:eek: not looking forward to that as there's still loads of OH's" treasures" lurking all over, and they will largely need to be smuggled out when DS isn't looking, the very thought of any of his dad's things being moved or touched still fills him with dread, but I think it will be the next healing step for me, fortunately one of my oldest friends is on standby to help/bring wine/offer hugs and kicks where necessary! Mind you, will need to empty 2 baskets of ironing first to clear a space to work in, so no rush.
Anyways better get on before the old back seizes up!
    RIP Iain

Jools, when my mum died, me & my brothers put all her "treasures" and bits & pieces in some plastic crates, then we spent several evenings glugging wine & reminiscing, before either claiming, gifting or charity shopping each item. IIRC it was about 6 months before everything was sifted through.

Maybe putting your OH's treasures in storage boxes will be a step on the way, then you can all go through them together when time has begun to heal a bit? That would also allow you to deal with your room of doom!

    Evening all

yesterday was spent putting together furniture and helping our eldest in his newly purchased place, it must be so lovely to have EVERYTHING new, but not OS I know, still you can dream .....

spent the day, again, in the yellow and blue superstore, looking at lovely things and buying a well considered purchase.

lovely tea of chickpeas, chorizo and spinach stew

off to the Hythe Venetian carnival on Wednesday, have never been, but basically a waterborne carnival, in both day and night time, ticket was a present to me, HM picnic to take

Hugs to those who need them, some people going through tough times:(

Floss, the real treasures like jewellery, photos, presents and cards and notes from me and the kids over the years, have been looked at, cried and laughed over, and sorted, we also have 3 large storage crates full, 3 large tool boxes, a stacked walk in cupboard..............OH never parted with anything, I've already shredded all his payslips and bank statements since he was 15 ( was 49 when he died), we have more lp's than I can count, football and concert tickets since he was a teenager, fishing bags.............you get the picture! He was a hoarder and the room of doom is that way because a lot of his things are in boxes there as its the only room in the house that is visitor free , for a while it was comforting to have it near me, but I know we need to thin it out a lot! I have a notion that I will eventually get someone in to fit the bedroom, and have some decent storage and somewhere shelf like to put some favourite/ memorable things, its just the getting started, the "things" are much more difficult than the clothes were because they didn't have the emotions attached, DS adopted his large collection of footie shirts and the rest went to the hospice shop!

Anyways, not the greatest worry today, my friend was at the hospital, had some scans and 6 biopsies, results on Wednesday so everything is crossed!

With regards to the concert/football tickets, if they aren't stored somewhere like this already, why don't you get a couple of really cheap photo albums (the kind that are only 60p or something in Asda to display them? We go to a lot of gigs, and I've kept every gig/festival ticket that me and BF have been to since we got together 6.5 years ago - I have 2 photo albums full now!
Your son and daughter can keep them somewhere safe, or they can live on a bookshelf and it might be a nice little 'book' for them to look through and remember a part of their dad. I wish I had more of my dad's belongings, however things like tickets are so full of memories :-)
the only debt left now is on credit cards! The evil loan has gone!! :j:j

The tickets are all stapled into the matching programmes, he loved programmes.....some will be collectibles like some of his old punk and rock albums, DD and DS are going to go through them, keep the ones they want, ask his best friends if they want any, then car boot/sell some apparently!
We no longer have a turntable, but a few years ago one of our friends copied a load of our albums onto disc for us, s still have access to our favourite music
