Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 19th August. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

    Morning all

Tis my last week to get on top of things as we are away next week and then back to school. As per usual some of them I have left a little late in the day!

However, made over 100 on car boot yesterday, I let a lot of things go very cheaply because they were cluttering the house and never being used. I've come back with very little and think I will just send this to charity otherwise I will hoard it somewhere else! Tbh I am amazed at what difference it has made to the house.

Not happy with dd1 who broke the screen on her iPod last week and has'lost' it in the house now. She does not seem to get that it is an expensive piece just to lose. I have tried everything so have now told her that she will pay me back the money even if it means no Christmas presents. Even this seems to have no impact on her.

Today I want to tidy round, check my to do list and get the week organised.

    Have a good on all.

Dishwasher is loaded after last nights roast chicken dinner, but not full enough to switch on. Will probably do that after tea tonight.
Looking forward to watching the final part of The Mill I taped on Ch4 last night, the first 3 parts have been really good.

Best get moving before I fall asleep again!

    Good Morning everyone :j

It's looking like it's going to be another lovely day today. I have to stay in though as I am expecting an Argos delivery. DDs 13 and 12 have asked for desks for their rooms supposedly to do homework on although DD12 is thinking more that she will store her makeup on it:rotfl:.

Last week was a very expensive week for us. Apart from taking the girls out to a local theme park, I ordered the desks and chairs and then yesterday had to order a new cooker as ours gave up the ghost. I always had electric cookers but last time chose a gas one with an eye level grill. It's been absolutely rubbish. The hob was ok but the oven temperature was all over the place with only the very top shelf useable. I will be glad to see the back of it. I've ordered a Zanussi electric fan oven with ceramic hob from the Co-op so fingers crossed it will all go smoothly.

I'm going to have a little bit of a rant now. Feel free to skip this :D.
I ordered my new shopping trolley online and had to pay by Paypal as that was the only option available. Unfortunately it wasn't in stock so I cancelled the order and re-ordered from a different seller, again using Paypal. They rang me last week to say that they couldn't supply the one I wanted as they had sold out and it was very unlikely to get another one as they weren't being manufactured. I asked for the money to be refunded and all credit to both companies, they refunded the same day back to Paypal. But now Paypal have put the money on a temporary hold for a week. That's nearly £140 stuck in their accounts which I need back. Even when they eventually put the money back in my Paypal account I will have to wait a few more days for the money to go back into my bank account. Why is it so slow!!! OK rant over :D

I've stripped the bed and will remake it in a bit and I see on the flylady thread that it's the kitchen today so that will be mine and the girls' mission. I'm cooking chicken and vegetable stew from the Hairy Dieters cookbook. I'm so excited, their new one has been dispatched from Amazon so I will hopefully get that today as well.

Well, I hope everyone has a great day and if not, gentle hugs are offered. Take care.
    Cheers m'dears x

  • Good morning everyone :)

Last day of the summer hols today then DH is back in college tomorrow, ready to start enrolling students when the GCSE results are out on Thursday. Can't believe how quickly that time has gone past.

It's a bit overcast this morning so am hesitant about putting last bits of washing out. Will give it half an hour and see if it brightens up, otherwise they can go over the landing to finish drying.

Planning on a walk later along the coast then back over the fields, hopefully that should blow some cobwebs away and get us ready for the return to our respective madhouse jobs!

Got a couple of ebay parcels to post but one person hasn't paid so have just had to open an unpaid case, which I don't like doing. I really wanted to get them posted today but if they do pay, they will just have to wait :(

Well wishes to all sick people and pets and hugs for anyone who needs them or just wants them. Keep well and safe and have a super day :)

Yesterday, I ate food. Not soft bananas, jelly or cheese spread on soft bread, but actual FOOD. A roast!! It was on a small plate and cut into tiny pieces, but I still think that counts :D I'm thrilled :D

I crocheted some triangles with the intention of making bunting. I started putting them together yesterday – it looks awful :rotfl: I'll finish it off then decide what to do, sometimes things look rubbish when they're half-done but OK when they're finished (errrr, don't they?!). It'll probably be unravelled though. I've been making little white stars too, for Christmas.

Master tru is enjoying his first day of self-employment – he had to be at work by 7.30am in his job, but this morning he got up an hour later and his first job is at 9am :D

    Morning all,

WM on, recycling out and DW needs emptying.

Last night I used the bath lift for the first time. Very exciting, but it'll take some thinking to work out how to have the sort of bath I want whilst sitting in a contraption. Who needs Sudoko when real life is just as puzzling?

Decision made about the washing up bowl - bright pink as the alternatives were red or lime green _pale_.

Today I shall mainly be in cupboards - trying to make sense of the storage and, hopefully, decluttering again. I'm sure things breed when my back is turned.

Dinner tonight is either gammon or some of my frozen chicken mountain. Another week or so and I can start my food master plan - but we need to clear away the fall out from the last year's chaos first.

Have the best day you can, x

    Morning all,
But now Paypal have put the money on a temporary hold for a week. That's nearly £140 stuck in their accounts which I need back. Even when they eventually put the money back in my Paypal account I will have to wait a few more days for the money to go back into my bank account. Why is it so slow!!!

Granted it was about 12 months ago but PayPal decided to put my funds on temporary hold for a whole month. I was steaming mad I can tell you. It was my own money for goodness sake! I recon they wanted to make some extra interest out of the funds they held of mine. They certainly are a law to themselves at times.

No news from the Baby House this morning. Ive messaged my daughter but she's not got back to me yet so I am presuming they are still at the hospital. Unathi was not so drowsy last night but my daughter and her partner were tired.

Usual Monday jobs for today. Ive started on the downstairs already but it was really hard work as I didn't vacuum over the weekend and the dog hairs really piled up.

    Havent started upstairs yet.

Special fried rice for my dinner today. Hubby made too much yesterday so i'm eating the leftovers for lunch.... Special fried rice twice in the space of 18 hours... watch the weight pile on! :(.

Not sure what i'm doing for tea tonight. I haven't thought that far ahead yet.

    Have a good day all.:)

    Morning All,

Judi - hope the news from the hospital is positive. What an ordeal for that poor child.

Looking forward to the Bank Holiday weekend, we are going to Southern Ireland for a long weekend to visit cousins and their families. My cousin is/was a builder and built himself a 6 bedroom farmhouse, so there is plenty of room for us to stay with them (fortune saved in accomodation costs!). DGS is coming on "holiday" too. He loves the freedom the country gives him and he loves helping his "uncle" feed the cattle. Hard to believe that in only a fortnight he goes to nursery school. :(

Have a good day everyone
