I want to get a new fast 2.5" hard disk for my laptop - but I have become slightly confused.
Can someone tell me if for ATA-100 drives the interface connectors are always 44-pin IDC?

For newer breeds of laptop, the answer is yes.
Older drives however may have a different interface, and different pin configurations. Some were 40 pin, some 44, and had 66 pins.
If you want to know what drives are compatible, put the lappie make and model up.0 -
I have a Samsung M40 - it currently has fitted Fujitsu MHT2080AT (80GB/4200rpm). has ultra dma 33/66/100 support and is Ultra ATA/100 (44-pin IDC)
I want to take this out and fit:

Will it work?0 -
Yes - it also has a 44 pin connector, according to the specs: http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=f07d99f4fa74c010VgnVCM100000dd04090aRCRD&locale=en-US
2.5 inch (laptop) IDE/ATA/PATA drives usually have a 44 pin connector, whereas 3.5 inch desktop drives have 40 or 80 pins.0 -
Thanks Guys. Have purchased it!0
