Paying extra for insurance?

Parents are looking at buying an item from a site called auctioning4u.

Their listing states,
1)This item will be shipped with a signature on delivery service. Please ensure that somebody is at the collection address, otherwise you will have to pay extra costs for resending the item. If an item is returned to Auctioning4u due to the buyer not being present at the time of attempted delivery, the buyer will then again have to pay for the item to be shipped back. Auctioning4u will not be responsible to cover this cost. Re-shipment charges will be that of the original postage and package charge

2)Insurance. For expensive or rare items please consider insurance. Without the added insurance we are not responsible for any items, lost or damaged, during transit. If the shipment is lost or damaged in transit and is not insured, we will only be able to claim up to £30.00. For items £470 or less added insurance is £9.50. For items above £470 the added insurance is 2% of the total amount

Would ebay back the seller with these rules? They say,,
We aim to process all orders within 7 working days but this may take a few days longer if we are exceptionally busy. Auctioning4u takes great care to ensure that your item is shipped safely to you (we sometimes use recycled packing material).

So, you have to wait at least 2 weeks for the item, and have zero idea what day they will send the goods. If you are out for 5minutes over the next few weeks they could charge you another £20 (£10 postage and £9.50 insurance)for it to all happen again.

Surely , if the goods turn up broken, or not at all..then its the sellers responsibility anyway and not the buyers, irregardless if you want to pay their ridiculous fee of £19.50. Jeez, you can get £150 insurance and delivery for £5 on ebay.
Be nice

Sorry, but wouldn't touch any seller or company with terms and conditions like that. Their terms are ridiculous and just shout out that they have problems..don't risk it.

Pay by PayPal and if item not received or broken then you just claim. Insurance is for the seller not the buyer.

Silly T&C's not worth the screen they are printed on. What is their feedback like?

Just had a look at their "ME" page this is one of the new breed of companies selling stuff for folk TSFE for EBay themselves and really should know better.

Also beware that they are a third party seller which means they are selling other peoples items, which adds a new compliction. Their feedback and stars are also looking borderline worrying.

Yes they have full buyer protection up to £500, so you should be fine with a claim via paypal if you do go ahead. However, make sure payment is fully backed by a credit card just in case.

    Thanks :)
You have said everything that I expected, but I thought that I should ask just in case.

So, I could just pay the £10 delivery, and then claim if anything goes wrong.

I always pay via credit card anyway with paypal..just in case :)

I make a big point on all my listings of asking buyers NOT to pay for insurance, from any sellers, I state that insurance is for the sellers protection only and I'm sure that it's no coincedence that I am getting far more sales.
It's particularly satisfying that I am taking sales from a competitor who reported me a while ago ( I am his only competition on certain things), he has ridiculous t's and c's, so it was an indirect dig at him. I reported him so many times for website links in his listings that he must have been made to remove them:p . It's great to see his £70 items going unsold, when mine are selling on every listing:D . That'll teach him to mess with me!
