I was waiting for someone to bite on that.
Once mail is delivered to an address it is of no concern to the Royal Mail what happens to it. The CAB, I would argue are wrong as legislation seems to revolve around interfering with mail in the system and intent once it has been delivered - for instance you open a letter sent to your address but with a different name and find a credit card AND use that credit card to defraud. If you just open the letter and send it back there is no intent. The man without a signature.0 -

If you disagree, show a link to the law not the CAB's advice.0 -

I thought that as the link was to Northern Ireland information there might actually be a different law in place there (for historic reasons opening unexpected mail might not be a good idea) but in fact the same mis-information is given on the page for England - if only we had a CAB board where we could complain.

a bit of drama (or potential drama) is always good0 -
I sent an e-mail to the CAB a few weeks ago pointing out that their website was giving incorrect information and gave them the link to the Postal Services act so they could check this for themselves.
I received an automated reply saying it had been received and that was it.
It's probably easier and cheaper for them to ignore it rather than change it so that it is correct. The amount of people on here who end up in the brown stuff by opening other peoples mail and getting involved is a daily occurrence.0
