Hi hope someone may be able to give some useful advice,,, we bought my son a personalised number plate for his 21st birthday present, nothing flash but containing his initials. Unfortunately someone smashed into his car last November writing it off and he did not get enough money to get himself a new car. He paid the £105 to keep his number plate but this runs out shortly so we thought the best option would be to sell it. We bought it fromDVLA for £250 but they don't buy back.
Does anybody please know the best place to try and sell it for hopefully as much or close to what we paid for it.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in anticipation.

Ebay, Gumtree, Local paper, Card in the post office window.
Its possible that you wont get the retention fee for it.
Try advertising it and then maybe just let it go if it doesnt sell?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
DVLA charge a ridiculous amount for their modern numbers.
You might be luck to get £50 for it on the open market.
Depends upon his initials of course, and how 'old' -ie the year the number dates from.0 -

Because all you bought was the right to display the number. The DVLA still 'own' it.
How about transferring the number to another family member's car. It would still cost the transfer fee but at least you wouldn't lose the number.0 -
I think I'll try and advertise privately otherwise perhaps I'll transfer it to my car.
Thanks for all your replies.0
