Gas bill

I was being supplied with Electricity and Gas for my rented house. I was in that rented house from 1Sep'12 to 13Aug'13 during which EDF supplied my house with Gas and Electricity.
EDF did not send me an Energy bill for one year ! After sending them 1 mail and a chaser, they acknowledged their mistake and have now sent me the gas bill.
I've recd a bill of £808. I understand that I have to pay the bill as I have been receiving this service.
But, I need to really speak to them and the Ombudsman, and get a compensation for their mistake.
Can someone help me on this.

I really hate this compensation culture that we are developing.
You used it. They billed you (albeit slightly late). PAY IT!
Expecting compensation is like asking all the other members of this board to contribute towards your bill, because it's us, the other customers that effectively take the hit.0 -

agreed , do you not think it may have been sensible at some time in that 12 months to make 1 phone call and enquire about the usage?0 -
Did you register with them for an account upon taking up possession? Did you check your online account?
Compensation for what? You've enjoyed a year's interest-free credit while the money sat in your bank. What possible loss have you suffered?
The Ombudsman will not consider a complaint until you have exhausted the supplier's own complaints procedure, which you haven't even begun yet.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Well in one year the Gas price has moved...so use just one price that is costliest say in August and if I calculate its not correct. Moreover the compensation I ask for is to ensure the suppliers bill me according to time and not usage !!!
If I use 10 months of gas and they bill me using the costliest price , say at the 10th month despite giving them notice through mails !!! I am not rich enough nor magnanimous to just pay my bill whatever it is !!!
Moreover my view is I understand I have to pay my bill, and I DONT deny that. But its a 2 way street.0 -
They don't back bill you on the current price, they back bill using estimated readings at any dates on which the price went up. So if the price went up say twice in that period, your bill would show three different rates, each for x days.
So what happened to the money you had presumably set aside to pay the bill when it arrived?

Mate, my EDF account did not have a Submit Meter Reading for GAS ! Despite reminding them over phone and emails, they did not add a field for Gas, so I never submitted one for Gas !
Because of the mails, they finally acknowledged the issue after 9 months, and now have asked me for an initial reading and final reading. And now they are going to send me a final bill.0 -
If you give them detailed monthly meter reads from the past year I am sure they will bill you accordingly.0
