Do I need to replace fridge water filter?

Hi

I have a Samsung American style fridge which dispenses ice and water. Recently the water filter light came on indicating that I need to replace the water filter. I have looked online to see how much they are. They are in the region of £30 which was a big shock! The question is should I replace the water filter or can I just keep drinking the water as it is through the old filter? I am not overly concerned with having filtered water (the water in my area is fine) and the only reason I drink water from the fridge is because it is cold.

What do you think?

Thanks

If it is a ceramic filter, you may want to isolate the supply and give the outside of the filter cartridge a clean of any sediment. That may give you some more life out of it. The only downside of continuing to use the filter is that the water won't be filtered and the flow rate from the dispenser will probably reduce.

Both my daughters have these, the filters they buy from ebay are certified and much cheaper.

The fridge counts down the number of cups or amount of water dispensed if I'm right.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Thanks - I can see they are slightly cheaper on ebay but I might just leave it as it is for the next few months. If the flow rate becomes a problem I may have a look at ebay

    Thanks all for your help
  • Take the filter out and use it without a filter.

It's what we do on our Samsung - depends on the quality of your tap water obviously.

I would have thought if you are in hard water area you want to use a filter.

On the west coast here we are in a soft water area and I just reset the fridge whenever the light comes on.

The water is fine where we live - and we have some sort of filter on the way into the house if I remember correctly.

How do you reset the fridge? Is it as simple as turning it off and on again?

    Thanks

If your Samsung fridge is like mine the filter will be in the top right of the fridge compartment. If this is the case then you can't just remove the filter as it is inline and looks and works much like a car oil filter.

    This type

We have used the eBay ones since the first one ran out and they work perfectly. You can reset the filter change light which just slowly counts 6 months from the last reset before it turns purple, then red. I tend to reset the light when it goes red but only change the filter every other reset (so once a year) and that works fine for me.

They do make a difference though as I cut one open out of curiosity and it was full of particles and brown-grey discoloration. Also, when you fit a new one the water flow rate is visibly much faster indicating the old one was getting clogged with debris.

I have a Samsung Fridge Freezer and to reset I just press the ice type and child lock buttons together and hold for about 5 seconds.
