Why are images and scanned docs appearing so huge in Microsoft Office?

Martin, it just says 'Microsoft Office' at the top of each picture. I'm presuming it's their inbuilt picture viewer. The logo is a red box, if that helps. Sorry, I'm useless when it comes to technology, hence why I tend to use the default products supplied!
Googler, I re-name and re-save after re-sizing.0 -
You're using Picture Manager which is part of MSO 2010.
In the bottom right corner of the screen, there's a slider labelled "Zoom".
Use that to shrink down the image on your display; there's no need to be actually resizing the pics (unless, as mentioned upthread, you're incorporating them into Word docs etc).
That said, I can't work out why Picture Manager isn't automatically scaling itself.I'm dreaming of a white Christmas.
But, if the white runs out, I'll drink the red.0 -
I would NEVER recommend Office to view photos, as it reduces the quality on screen, and uses huge files, as said earlier.
Use Windows Picture Viewer and you will see instantly what I mean.
How to download photos (This works with ANY camera, regardless of the software it recommends)- Plug in camera
- Set camera to On and Playback (in most cases)
- Open Windows Explorer (click on My Computer)
- (Close any pop up window at this point)
- Find your camera on the left (it might be a new drive name, such as E drive)
- Find the photos you want to download
- Highlight them and Right Click > Copy
- Find where you want to save them eg: My Pictures > 2013 > 2013-08 (to keep them in strict date order)
- Right clickwithin that folder > Paste
- Watch the photos transfer to your PC and be viewed as they should be.
- Click Full Screen if not already
Look at it this way... In a hundred years who's gonna care?0 -
White Christmas, can you believe I never even noticed that slider in all the years I've been downloading photos? Thank you. However, I know I don't need to re-size them all, but I like to do this. If showing friends an album or uploading pictures to a website, for example, the slider becomes invalid as a fix. Only to view the photos does it really help, but for sure, now that you have alerted me to it, I'll be using it :-)
RealGem, you are truly a gem indeed! I haven't tried it yet since I've no more photos to download, but I'm going to print off your instructions and do this with my next download. It looks like just the fix I need. Maybe I've just been using the wrong program the whole time. Thank you so much. It seems I've been following all these instructions except for the crucial change to Picture Viewer. I'll let you know how I get on.0 -
snipped.....
I just download folders from my camera to store folders of memories on the computer. Occasionally I will send select photos via email or put them onto a website, but it's mainly for storage purposes.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . I do have an external hard drive and just pray that it works alright if the dreaded scenario ever happened! Funnily enough, I used to have every photo developed and placed neatly into albums in chronological order, but the computer makes it so much easier to store and to print only what is necessary.0 -

I have a huge digital photo collection, made all the larger because I always keep the original large file unchanged and then work on a copy in software (adjusting histogram, cropping, resizing etc.) which is then also saved to disc.
They are very precious to me and so I have several high capacity external hard drives with backups on each. One is taken off site and stored at my mum's house just in case. Hard drives are so cheap now it makes sense to have several.... You can use a cloud storage service like Dropbox, Google Drive or Sugarsync to keep backups.
A backup on an external drive sitting next to the computer is no good if Mr Burglar nicks both, or there's a fire or flood in the room that damages both.0 -
Keep the original picture in case you need to print it.
I use Irfanview to batch resize any pictures I want to email or view on the PC in, say, Powerpoint. This is very fast.
Typically 5mb JPG reduces to 65kb and perfectly useable on screen (a bit rubbish printed, though).0
