As for the question about what happens to his credit rating - nothing happens to this as credit rating's don't really exist as such.
I recall that Experian recorded how long you have lived at a property in the searches section - could a big discrepency there flag up a warning? The OP did say they omitted to use former address. Given that the loan is secured on the vehicle there's generally less risk involved in deciding whether to grant the finance (e.g. I got a car on finance needing £8k and a salary of £17k at the time)0
