Help with housing benefit for disabled person.

My friends daughter is now paralysed from the waist down and in a wheelchair after a car accident.
She lives in a private landlord apartment and receives help with her rent. She would love to move nearer her mum, so she can get more help. Her mum doesnt drive and lives 2 bus rides away.

Would she still be entitled to housing benefit if she does move? She seems to think she won't.

Thanks for any replies. :D

I'm not sure why she thinks she wouldn't be entitled to HB. Did she give a reason?

If she wants to move to another privately rented place then she would still be entitled to HB (local housing allowance)
  • No idea why she would think that. Shes always worked and has no idea how the benefit system works.

    as above regarding housing benefit.

just to add though, it would be worth her applying to the local authority for social housing, as she would be given a certain amount of priority due to the fact that she is moving in order to receive additional support.
i'm not saying she will be allocated, but it's always worth trying

I agree with nannytone she should apply for social housing as someone in her position should get priority but this may be more difficult if from another area.

Many private rentals are difficult or reluctant to adapt for someone who has disability but housing associations have adapted accommodation to help those in need.
There is no definate answer if she will be eligible but as nannytone said its worth trying.

Needs to emphasize her need for additional support from family.
