Changing my childs name by deed poll???

Hi OP,
My ex had no parental responsibility of my son either. I applied by deed poll to change my son's surname without a court order and it was all done ok. I then used the deed poll certificate to get his new passport. This was 4 years ago when he was 10, I had no problems at all
I think the key point is whether the absent parent has Parental Responsibility. This is when the passport office insist on seeing a letter of authority from the absentee parent consenting to the name change. It certainly was in my case. The OP's ex does have PR but if she can provide evidence of his violence toward them then she does not need his consent.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
Thats what im worried about how do I prove it, it asks for crime numbers but its been so long I dont have them (the abuse happened in 2000). I have all the infor of the police station and court that dealt with it and the hospital my son was at and also the sentence he got but havent got the crime number.0

does it? I was never asked for crime numbers as I hadn't got any as I never reported it formally. I was just told to write a covering letter to be kept with the deed.
my son has strangely told me today he wants to apply for a passport next year to go on holiday with his mate and their family. he will be 16 then so I had to explain that it may be that he goes in his birth name if the deed doesn't stand. his reply was 'I don't care, its only for a holiday. I carry the name of my real family, not the one that s**t on me then ran off' I thought that was quite sweet in its own way lol0 -

Why not call the police station and courts and see if they can find the numbers for you?0 -
I was brought up thinking I had the same dad as my sisters. My mum told me and she gave me my deed poll. She was married to my biological father He wasn't violent of abusive. but my mum changed my name and got my passport with my changed name without a court order or his permission. and ive never said to anything official what my second name was I just always say the one my mother changed it to.it might not be much, but its better than a kick in the teeth:rotfl:
