How the hell do I get rid of these meters? My wife wasn't in thank goodnessThey asked me for the keys to my gun cabinet

How the hell do I get rid of these meters? They put the credit on them from the last bill I had from them.
Make sure that your account in well into credit then ring other suppliers and see if they will be willing to switch you over to them on normal meters. However they will charge around £100 per meter to do this.
You have zero chance of Scottish Power changing them back !!0 -
Just as an update
Well they attended late this afternoon, rep from Scottish Power, someone that sounded like he was a bailiff and three police officers!
My wife wasn't in thank goodness.
I was asked by the police to sit in their car with one of them whilst they entered the house. They had a warrant to enter.
They installed prepayment meters for the gas & electricity.
must admit it caused a stir with all the neighbours - all thinking that I had been arrested with men coming in and out and the police guarding the house.
There wasn't a lot I could do to resist - I was warned that any attempt on my part would result in me taken to the police station.
They asked me for the keys to my gun cabinet where I keep my shotgun and removed it and put it in the boot of the car I was sat in.
Eventually I was allowed to go back in the house. They had made a right mess. Understairs cupboard tipped all over the dining room floor, furniture upside down in the lounge.
The worst of it was having to explain to my wife when she came home.
Anyhow what's done is done. I have to go to the police station on Monday morning to be interviewed over what had happened.
All of that I can sort out.

Oh dear !!!! Poor you !!!!0 -
It doesn't take much effort to put a 12 bore cartridge over their heads if they attempt to force entry into my home.I have to go to the police station on Monday morning to be interviewed over what had happened.0

Lets just hope he has learned a lesson from this !!0

I don't understand how you run this relationship. You talk about yourself all the time - I did this, I did that - but in a marriage, isn't it more normal to talk about what WE did? Especially regarding things in your home, your utilities, which presumably you both use, and pay for from the income you categorise as 'joint'?
If such things happened to us, the worst thing that would happen to my DH would be that I would kill him for not treating me as a partner and discussing all this long before it got to the stage of 'shotguns at dawn'!
How do you manage to keep all this secret from your wife? Or do you think she 'shouldn't worry her pretty little head'? Grrrr. You'd be facing worse than a shotgun if you did that to me.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

Hello. I wonder if some kind soul can tell me what I should do please.
For quite a few years I have been very happy on the 'fresh Start' social tariff with Scottish Power.
I have been paying a monthly DD for £84 which covered the bills.
Out of the blue I received a letter from them dated 19th July 2013, but delivered on Sat 3rd August!!!!
They simply, without any explanation told me that as from the 7th August they will start collecting £120 a month. I telephoned them on the following Monday (5th) and again on the Tuesday morning (6th) but could not get through after waiting ages. So I decided that they just can't increase it willy nilly without telling me why so I went to the bank on the Tuesday afternoon (6th) and cancelled the DD. That way they don't get any money until I am satisfied that they can prove to me that the £120 is reasonable.
Eventually I managed to get through to them on Sat 10th. I told them what had happened and what I wanted and that no more money was coming their way until they give me an answer.
Well I received a letter this morning telling me that the £120 would have been too high anyhow as they had reviewed my consumption and gave figures that I can now agree with - the Direct Debit should have been £100 a month instead of the £84 that I have been currently paying.
Unfortunately things have moved on now - I rang them today - as I have cancelled the DD, the Fresh Start social tariff has been cancelled and is no longer available - I have been put on the cash monthly standard tariff. The costs of the units now means that they now want a 'cash payment every month of £150!!
I told them that they could fly their kite with the £150 - and the most that I will pay them is what I should have been asked to pay in the first place - £100 a month. They said no and as I now have a debt with them (non payment of the last DD) and because of my refusal to pay them anything unless it is on my terms they will are to arrange for me to have prepayment meters installed.
Well it got a little heated after that when they told me that they will if need be obtain a warrant to force entry to change the meters - my final answer was - try it - one of us will end up in hospital if you do that!
How can I force Scottish Power to go back to the beginning (as they should have in the first place if only they had answered my telephone calls on the Mon & Tues.
It has gone now from a good social tariff to prepayment meters
with my fuel costs going up from £84 a month to over £150 a month!
The £293.65 is made up of my wife's SRP, ESA - contributory for me, and some pensions of mine. I don't get my SRP until next June.
Currently our minimum income (as decided by the government that we need to be able to live on) is £407.65 a week. They don't count DLA or AA so that is in addition bringing the minimum up to £595.05 a week.
Incidentally that amount would be paid by the government even if neither of us had ever worked in our lives and claimed benefits for the past 46 years.[/QUOT
I don't call the above amount a low income0 -

You may not do, but the government does!
Anybody in receipt of a means tested benefit is classified as being on a low income and by definition poor.0 -
OP - I had' a bit of sympathy for you. I have just left Scottish Power after 13 years due to constant DD battles and moved to EDF.
BUT - after listening to your crap about what you will do to people that may come to change your meter etc... then all you sounds like is some kind of crack pot nutter.
You better hope that you don't abuse or threaten anyone as you might pick the wrong one, that might return when it's dark and knock YOU out.
Love it. Like the guy at the airport who said 'Oh be careful with my suitcase, it has a bomb in it'. Armed police arrived mob-handed, and even when the guy said it was a joke, it was taken very seriously indeed. You just cannot make those kind of threats nowadays.Anybody in receipt of a means tested benefit is classified as being on a low income and by definition poor.
Thank the Lord I am not, and never have been, on a means-tested benefit. My definition of being poor is not knowing where next week's work, and therefore next week's earnings, will be coming from. Been there.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.
