    I just don't see what's wrong with paying a tiler to do it. I've budgeted for it,

    There should be a 5mm gap all around a UPVC frame anyway for expansion. That is then covered with sealant on the inside and outside.

    Are you sure the part you're referring to is actually part of the window and not just UPVC trim which can be added on later to cover the gaps?

    In any case there is nothing to worry about, your window is not holding up your house.
