Depositing a cheque in your old name after you change your name

After changing your name using a deed poll and the bank complies and gives you new cheque books and Debit cards, is it possible to deposit cheques in your old name to the account? Maybe using the endorse box at the back like the link below shows (special endorsement)?

I'm not sure about that, but when I changed my name & received a cheque in the new name, I was able to pay it into my account which still had my old name (due to incompetence of bank - I had notified them). I took the Deed Poll doc, my driving licence (in new name), bank card (in old name) and basically an assortment of stuff like that to show who I had been/currently was & then explained to the girl on the counter that I was still waiting for them to change account details... Don't know if that may be any help to you or not really....

That's an American website (clue in the spelling of 'check'?) and the endorsement box and the rules mentioned on it apply only to US banks.

If it's a one-off, I'm sure you could get them to accept it, as they knew you under your old name. But if you want to do this on a regular basis, you need to go in and talk with the bank. I'm sure it can be done but the way it's done might vary from one bank to another.

Not everyone can spell properly so American spelling won't necessarily mean it's an American site :)
You're right in this case but it's worth remembering

My bank alllows me to deposit cheques in my maiden name as long as I present my marriage certificate to them. You should be able to do the same with your change of name certificate.
