Hotel booking mistake

Unfortunately, I made a mistake in booking a Mercure hotel in York. I was meant to book for the 27th of this month, but instead I booked for the 28th, on expedia. My reservation was non-refundable.

I realised this as soon as I got the confirmation email. I immediately contacted expedia even though it was already 11.30pm. After several phone calls to the agent and the hotel, I came to the understanding their in-house reservation team who can authorise booking does not work weekends.

My question is, what rights do I have here? I have made a mistake and I tried to rectify at the earliest opportunity. I have phone records to show these. I have been told the hotel policy is that the booking cannot be altered. I understand, also, that unfortunately the distance selling laws does not apply to hotel bookings.

I paid by credit card. Would it be wise to dispute a payment if I call on Monday and the hotel tells me that the date cannot be changed?

The terms of the sale are that its not refundable and non changable, if they are not willing to change it as an exception to that rule then you have absolutely no grounds for a dispute of payment.

This is your error, if they are not willing to make an exception you have to take the hit for it.

Not harsh, its just how it is.

Can you not book the 27th as well and spend a little longer in York ?

Not really, that's why hotels offer a higher rate, with adjustable terms.

You wanted it cheap and a moment of lapse in concentration is the problem, not the price or the terms which you wanted...

you have the choice to book a restricted £56 rate or a flexible £75 rate. They will assume that book the non-changeable/cancellable rate will be positive of their booking

I'm sure they'll change it. There's no real difference between a Tuesday and Wednesday from a hotel point of view so I doubt you'll have any problem swapping the date.

Mistakes happen and while you have no consumer right that entitles you to change dates I would be very surprised if the hotel wont let you change the date.

I would say the hotel will be decent too, most are, even though they dont have to change the booking.
