Ikea Beds - Do They All Squeek ??

8 years ago i bought an Ikea Hemnes White King SIze bed and mattress. From the time i built the bed, it has always squeeked from any movement on the bed, so over the years i have tried many things from adding extra glue and brackets and heavier screws, just when you think you get rid of the squeeks, they return again. Im sick of it.

I love the mattess from ikea, im reluctant to buy a different mattress in case i dont find it as comfortable and i can get a sore back with certain mattresses.

SO is there an ikea bed i can buy for my king size mattess that wont squeek like hell. Obviously when me and my partner ger frisky is very offputting.

Should i buy something more solid elsewhere?

Maybe it isn't the bed but a family of tiny mice.

It's probably caused your king size mattress. IKEA beds usually come in weird metric sizes that aren't compatible with standard UK mattresses.
  • duuh my question relates to whether the new ikea beds are non- squeeky or not. otherwise please move on.

We have a Hemnes bed and I can't say we've ever had a problem with squeaking. We did have a problem with the slats constantly sliding off the midbeam which we solved by buying a new one - the one we originally bought for it (Hamar?) is no longer made so I'm guessing they had lots of issues with them. I don't know where your squeak is coming from but it might be worth trying a new midbeam? Ours cost about £14 iirc, and it has seemed to make the whole bed a lot more stable. It could be the midbeam which is squeaking as on our old one, it was hard to tighten the screws sufficiently to stop the whole thing sliding about.

Thanks for the information Callie. I think the problem is metal to metal contact, those thin rails that go from sides to centre beam are likely candidates. I think removing these thin rails would help but they are needed to stop the slats from falling off the supports and main beam.
