Reclaiming bank charges

Hi there,

I was just wondering if it is still possible to reclaim bank charges back now as I have previously made a claim (a few years ago) but it got put on hold due to the decision of the courts. It equated to about £2000 or so. I was gutted when this got put on hold as this would have got me out of the mess i was in. The reason I am asking this is because I was paying over almost £100 charges on my current account for being overdrawn every month which caused me to go even more over my limit. I could not get out of this mess. I was constantly living in my overdraft and getting charged these ridiculous amounts.
I am financially ok now and have not been in my overdraft for over 2 years...

The banks won the court case in 2009. You can no longer complain about unfair bank charges. As you are not in current financial hardship, that route is not open to you either.

  • Hello,
Apologies if this is not the correct place to post this.

I recently completed a debt management plan (DMP) with Stepchange. One of the debts i held was an overdraft. I recently requested the transactions of this account, for the period i was in the DMP. I was a little surprised that the bank charged interest for the first 37 months i was in the plan. They must have acknowledge i was in the plan, as they stopped the fee for the account immediately.
Will i be able to claim the interest back for the time i was in the DMP?

    Thanks
    Al

Have you asked Stepchange? What do they say? Did they manage to agree with the creditor to freeze the interest?

    According to their website:
Most creditors will recognise the steps you’re taking to repay them and will freeze interest and charges - but they don’t have to do this
  • Hello,

Not sure what arrangements where made between the bank and stepchange. I have asked stepchange to look into that. I'm going to speak to the bank and see what they say. I'll report back how i get on.
