AA Membership and Vehicle Reg

Be warned that the AA will charge you £49.99 to come out to your car if you have changed your vehicle and haven't "told" them, even if you have AA Car Insurance that shows the new vehicle registration.
The AA are not one coordinated organisation that passes information between departments, unless it is of benefit to them.
There is no information on the membership document about changing the vehicle registration and the details are only on page 13 of the Terms and Conditions.
I won't be using the AA again.

With Autoaid you are covered for any car you may be driving.

One of the many reasons it is a moneysavingexpert best buy0 -
Makes perfect sense - what's to stop you being out in your mate's car, it breaking down and you telling them it's yours, you just haven't told them yet?
You call your insurance to change it over, breakdown is the same. Entirely your fault, it's common sense that if you have a policy relating to a vehicle you need to update it when the vehicle changes.0 -
AA provide two different forms of breakdown cover. Personal, in which the member is covered irrespective of what vehicle they are in (either as the driver or a passenger) and vehicle cover, that is only for a specific car.
Specific car cover is cheaper than driver/passenger cover and if this is what you have, what is wrong with the AA insisting that you advise them of the vehicle that you want covered?0 -
If you had nominated vehicle cover, then the insurance arm would be wrong to tell the breakdown side of any change without your consent.
You retain the responsibility to know what needs updating - not seek someone else to blame! The charge seems to be the cost of switching cover which would have applied for any mid-term change.0 -
I've made a slight amendment to your post CumbriaRunnerCumbriaRunner wrote: »There is no information on the membership document about changing the vehicle registration and the details are only on page 13 of the Terms and Conditions.
I won't be using the AA again or indeed, any other organisation that expects me to act like an adult who understands what their responsibilities and obligations are0 -

Interesting to have had a number of people attack me for my post. I always appreciate it when people think that I am not acting like and adult or missing my responsibilities.
I have been in discussions with the AA and they have agreed that as I told the Insurance branch that I had changed my car, and it was the Insurance branch that caused my AA membership to be issued free, then I had a valid point when querying the charge and why my membership details had not been changed.
They have refunded the charge and agreed to give me some compensation for their poor customer services.
They have also said that they are reviewing the communications within the AA as I had a valid point.0 -

A subtle and rather important detail which you forgot to mention originally...0
