Solicitor enquiries just before exchange - can anyone advise?

Having waited since Monday to exchange on my sale, it was finally confirmed we would exchange yesterday.However at 4pm the buyer's solicitor told the buyer he had only just managed to read the responses to enquiries, which we sent back 3 weeks ago!! Thanks Thrugelmir. I really don't think it's my buyer playing games as I know he has paid his deposit and in fact he spent all of last week asking me for the earliest possible completion date! Until his own solicitor threw this spanner in the works late on Friday just as we were all expecting to exchange.
