Help with understanding bill....Idiot post

Options

I’mwondering if someone can explain my current electric bill to me, Because forthe life of me, I can’t understand it at all.

(Pleaseexcuse the fact I’m an idiot… ha-ha)

Bit ofbio:-

Was ona cash plan which resulted in high bills, after realising that there was afault on the meter and over years’ worth of issues, we agreed on a pay as yougo meter. (Not very mse – But it helped us budget)

Thiswas installed slightly short of a year ago and the bill states as follows …

Prepayment,ECO7, Date 25/09/2012 – 13/07/2013

Debtrepayment £301.01 Rate £4 weekly

£685.00total of top ups.

Billoutstanding £1.244.93

Bill readings as follows
Day readings: OUR READING 5, EST, 627, 622 £94.79
Night readings: Our reading 0, Est, 474, 474 £27.36

(Date for the above 25/09/2013 - 06/12/12)

Day readings 627, EST, Our reading, 2632, 2005 £344.26
Night readings 474. EST, Our reading, 1967, 1493 £97.05

That's exactly how its shown on the bill, Therefore I cant understand it, Also just to add, We have all electric in our property but we don't use the heaters at all.

Hope this is enough information for you wise bunch to assist me.

Thanks in advance.

    (Date for the above 25/09/2013 - 06/12/12)

    ?? presumably 25/09/2012

You are on an Economy 7 tariff.

The day meter read 0005 kWh: the Night(off-peak) meter read Zero on 25/09/2012.

On 06/12/2012 they estimated the meter readings to be 627kWh and 474kWh and the cost for that to be £94.79 and £27.36 respectively. The £94.79 was for 622kWh(627 - 5)

On 13/07/2013 they read the meters as 2632 and 1967.

    So you pay for 2005kWh day rate(2632 - 627) costing £344.26. and 1493kWh night rate(1967 - 474) costing £97.05.

So your total cost from 25/09/2012 to 13/07/2013 is £563.46

You have spent £685 on top ups.

What is not shown is the amount of debt at 25/09/2012

If the debt is set to be collected at £4 weekly the figure of £301.01 makes no sense.
  • Cardew this is what is confusing me, I cant understand the bill at all. I have written it to the dot of the letter and double checked the date I put on here. They have made an error on the date too which I never noticed before.

I amount i'm being charged also seems like a lot, But then again i'm not sure if that's because everything in the property is electric.

    Many thanks.

  • on prepay electric, day reading is on screen " H " in kwhrs , night is on screen "J " in kwhrs. The readings are automatically transmitted to supplier on top up at the shop

The consumption and cost figures are quite straight forward and easy to understand.

Also to have only used 2627kWh daytime and 1967kWh off-peak(costing £563.46) in nearly 10 months is remarkably low.

The point that is unclear is the 'Debt repayment £301.01 Rate £4 weekly'

    £4 weekly from 25/9/2012 to 13/7/2013 is £164 (41 weeks)

I had assumed that you had reduced your debt by £301.01 to an outstanding amount of £1,244.93. However your total top-ups were £685 and as your consumption came to £563.46 it would appear that you could have only reduced your debt by £121.54(£685 - £563.46)

It is on this latter point that you need clarification
