Not sure what I should do?

This is going to be fairly trivial but anyhow, still not sure what to do.

I brought a pair of shoes a couple of years ago. At the time they were in the sale but originally cost £89 and a good make, Nine west and I brought them from a Kurt Geiger shop.
They are a pair of cork based wedges with leather crossover top sandals with a proper fastening that goes round the ankle.
They are a smart pair of shoes but I've only worn them a mere handful of times usually when I'm dressed up smartly on holiday.

Recently I got them out of the box and realised that they have broken, the back ankle strap on one of the sandals has come away from the base on both sides I took them into town to see of I could get them repaired as I really like them to wear on holiday, the first shop I went into said he won't be able to repair but was surprised at how little worn they were and suggested I take them back to the shop. I thought I would try another shop repair shop who suggested the same thing, I kinda laughed because I have had them for 2 years but I still have original box and it is obvious they have hardly been worn and are a good make.

So the question is, should it take them back to the shop? I'm not going to get a exact replacement after all this time but I am very disappointed for them to have broken so quickly, considering the lack of wear they have had. Where would I actually stand a consumer?

Is it worth a try or will I get laughed out of the shop do you think?

Any one had a simular complaint..?

Would like to get some opinions before I head into town tomorro.

Thanks!

You may get a free repair, or I suppose you could get a free replacement.

On the other hand you may get an outright refusal to do anything without having to prove that the fault is inherent.

Not sure how you will decide which response you'll get without asking though. :D

Do you still have proof of purchase?
  • Hi wealdroam,
After a couple of years, no I haven't got any proof of purchase other than the box they came in with the shops label and price on the front.

I suppose I'm more worried I'll look like a complete idiot but having said that you don't expect a good pair of shoes to fall apart after a few 'wears' . They really look like brand new,

Without proof of purchase, the shop does not have to do anything.

I would not let that bother you... go and ask.

One thing is certain... if you don't ask them, they will not be doing anything to help you. ;)

The box with their name on may help, but of course that does not mean that anyone bought them from a Kurt Geiger shop.
  • No proof of purchase does limit their obligation to help you but if they have good CS then you may get a result.

Wealdroam is spot on - you don't ask, you certainly don't get!
    Thinking critically since 1996....
  • No proof of purchase and a long time time since purchase will probably mean you won't get anywhere, however you have nothing to lose by asking. Remember to be polite but not all soft and wet when you talk to them.
  • Well, thanks everybody, I think I will give it a try if the customer service is any good I might get somewhere. I've got to go into town anyway so an extra trip to the shoe shop can't hurt.

I'm not a person who usually tries it on, but in this case I think I do have a good point!
