When your pc goes down from a virus or something else and you lose all your data that you have saved, your work stuff etc, icons and so fourth. The only way I know how to salvage this is by doing a complete reinstall from scratch, of which means you still have lost everything. When this happens is there a way I can do it…

Take the hard drive out of the machine, put it in a USB caddy and connect it to another PC to retrieve files that you want.

The virus most likely hasn't deleted or corrupted them. Because you're not using the HDD as a primary disc with an Operating System when you connect it to another PC, the virus doesn't matter.
