Bedford Insurance Cancellation Query.

I am a new driver and few months back I bought a Car insurance (based on my International Licence) from Bedford for £1300. Few days back I passed the driving test. When I called the Insurance people to update it, they said I should pay £500 more to keep it going. At the same time, when I checked in Gocompare and Moneysupermarket, I am getting quotes of £900-£1000. Now I am thinking of cancelling the current one with Bedford and get a new one from any other agent. When I asked them about the insurance cancellation fee, they said it depends on the Sabre Insurance and they cant confirm any amount.
I am in big trouble now :(. If anyone can advice it will be very much helpful. Thank You !

Check your terms and conditions on the policy?

Dont forget that if you cancel now to lose the no claims built up so far this policy year.

Have they changed the insurer? Maybe you got the wrong person on the phone. Try again.

    Works wonders some times.

  • I checked the policy and it doesn't say anything in detail about the cancellation charges. They said Bedford act as an agent or Broker and the insurance is being provided by Sabre. It is also mentioned in the Certificate. He also said, i may get an amount of £500 which he cant confirm.

Regarding No Claim: If I pay them £500 extra, it would be in total £1800 and will expire in next March. If I take a new one at this point, i need to pay them only £900 and it will cover me for next 1 year. Will an year no claim make a huge difference in second year insurance premium? What is your suggestion? Thanks !

One year NCB is usually about 30% discount.

You can do a dummy quote on a comparison site with nil and then with 1 year to see the difference. Ignore the actual prices though.
