Plasma v LCD TV

TV technology has left me behind long ago  .
What is the difference between Plasma & LCD TV (if any)?
Which is best?
Any pro's & con's?
Is 'Plasma' the same as 'HD TV'?
It has taken about 4,500,000,000 (4.5 billion) years for the Earth to form as it is now .........
and it'll only take about another 100 years for mankind to really **** it up!!!!

HDTVs can be CRT, Plasma or LCD.

Most Plasma's aren't even UK SD spec let alone HD spec, though this is improving.

There are only a few HD CRTs a lot more HD LCDs, though still a fair amount of SD LCDs

HD is broadcast as one of two resolutions either 1280 x 720 or 1920 x 1080.

A lot of HD LCDs are 1336 x 768, so the TV has to rescale the image from one of the broadcast resolutions. Some are 1024 x 1024.

There are a few 1208 x 720 and 1920 x 1080 True HD screens around, but at the moment these can be quite expensive.

1336 x 768 is a computer monitor resolution, factories had old panels to sell off, and then when people were buying the TVs they decided to keep the same production lines going and kept making them.

I'm waiting for the cost of a Full HD screen to come down in price before going HD, it's not really worth the extra at the moment for a 1336 x 769 screen, and certainly not a 1024 x 1024 screen.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!
