minimum full time holiday pay

our shift pattern is changing to 4 on 4 off, going from 8 hour days to 12h days.
we currently get 25 days holiday (each day worth 8 hours)
if the company reduced our holiday entitlement (as a days holiday would be worth 12 hours), is there a minimum number of days that we must be given?
we would work on average 42 hour weeks

thanks

kevin

So currently you get 5 weeks? 25 days of 8 hrs?

    I'd think you'd get 5 weeks of 42 hrs = 210hours.

So if your shift on occurs on the 5th day of a 'holiday' you in effect get 12 days for 48 hrs. Alternatively you could end up with 12 days for 96hrs if the 4 days off occur in the middle!

    Timing is everything!

i would have thought you still get 25 days holiday as you are gaining extra days off compared to the old working pattern.

You would have got 5 weeks off on old pattern (5x5) you now get 6 weeks and a day (6x4+1)

It is possible they will give you your holiday allowance in hours, rather than days.

If you currently get 25 days at 8 hours, this is 200 hours. This would make more sense in equating the amount left for those that had already taken some holidays.

Every company will have a different policy on this, and therefore the only people that can tell you for sure is your company. However, this is what happened when my old employer changed shift patterns.

we do 12 hour days, but only get paid for 11 hours as there is lunch whihc is not paid for and I believe this is the case in most companies

a normal working paid day is 7.5 hours, so you should times these by 25 then add the bank holiday allowance (I take it you are expected to work bank holidays)

this will give you approx 245 hours, given that you have to take off 11 hours to have one day off, so if you want to take 4 days off you need to take off 44 hours, you will then end up with 12 days off in a row (as you will have 2 lots of 4 days off shift either side of your annual leave)

you must remember that you have to have a 10 hour break between shifts, so no working to 10pm one night and then back in at 6am the next day, absolute no no
