Working tax credits if over 60?

Hi all. My mum is over 60 and still works full time, over 30 hours a week as she does long 15 hour shifts so easily clocks up 45 hours in three days. I saw a table saying if you're single you can earn up to about 17 thousand and get some type of working tax credits. But when I tried to look, it said she was not entitled to anything on her £15/16k wage. Is that correct? Is it because of her age she won't get anything? She gets a pension but only the standard one based on what she's paid in, not pension credit or anything.

Yes thats correct. The income threshold is 12980.00 for 30+ hrs

They're long shifts aren't they, You should try and persuade her to start thinking of taking it easy, especially as she gets her pension on top. Less earnings might even get her the benefits she was hoping for.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

If you're single without children threshold is £13,000 pa for 30+ hours/week.

Thanks all, blimey 12 grand for the tax credits, you'd have to be on NMW I'm guessing to earn that amount to even qualify. I've tried to persuade her about working less but she likes it
but she has been talking about cutting down a few, she didn't know about tax credits or anything but I thought I'd try and check them out for her. I thought over 60 meant you only had to work 16 hours, dunno where I got that from lol. 0 -
That is correct. 60 and over you only have to work 16hours to claim WTC.No One I Think Is In My Tree.:cool:0

Your mum's state pension will also be taken into account for tax credits purposes.
She could have a play around with different scenarios on the benefit calculator here:

mum's state pension
She might not be getting a state pension yet - the OP does not say how much over 60 her mother is?
However, she might be drawing a private pension based on "what she paid in" but that too would be taken into account for WTC or PC?0 -

Sorry yes she does get the state pension as shes 62, I meant based on what she put in as that's how they calculate it (as far as I know) I just meant she isn't getting pension credit or anything else.0
