Re-Employment After Redundancy at same Company

Do employers have any duty to re-employ you if they made your job redundant and then 2 years later they have a vacancy for the EXACT same job? To be clear it's the exact role, to the letter, and the agency they're using has even copied/pasted from my own CV that I submitted to them before they reposted the advert.
This exact situation is happening to me and I want my old job back.
Do I have any rights to it?

I really don't think you have any rights not even after a few weeks I think they can re advertise the role.Pitchshifter wrote: »Do employers have any duty to re-employ you if they made your job redundant and then 2 years later they have a vacancy for the EXACT same job? I am sure someone can confirm that especially after 2 years now. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I know they can re-advertise, as I said in my post, I have applied for it.
Maybe what I mean is, seeing as they know they made me redundant, should they not be somewhat obliged to prioritse my application.
Well I guess we'll see, I'll give the agent a few more days then I'm contacting the company directly for a friendly chat. I did leave on good terms.0 -

Two years is a long time so they don't owe you anything to be honest. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

There is no legal obligation on a former employer to consider you for any vacancy, even the day after the termination of your employment.
As you left on good terms, did you stay in touch in any way after you left?
Is it a large company where HR do initial screening? If it is - and especially if you would expect a lot of people would meet the essential requirements of the person spec - I would think a friendly call to someone who might be close to the recruitment decision process could be a good idea, sooner rather than later, just so they know you have applied.0 -
Why was your position made redundant? did they hire anyone else after you left to do your job even if they changed the job title ?0

Why do you ask?borderline wrote: »Why was your position made redundant? did they hire anyone else after you left to do your job even if they changed the job title ?0 -
borderline asks a good question, positions are redundant in organisations, not individuals. Sounds like they wanted to just do a bit of people shuffling a couple of years ago without a genuine redundancy situation.0

OP of course they don't have any obligations to you, how long would you expect the obligations to last for anyway, 2 years, 5 years forever?Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0

"People shuffling", as you call it, is something which can be part of a genuine redundancy situation.
There is no evidence from the original post that the situation was anything but genuine two years ago.0
