American Express And Cashback

Hi,

I have one of the older American Express Credit Cards that pays casback.
I Pay no fee for this card, been using it for years no problem and receive a cash back payment annually.
Received my monthly statement today and my annual cashback payment that was due (almost £10) has been forfeited. Reason given was that I failed to spend enough this year.
Okay I have mainly been using my Asda and Santander 123 cards.

My question is that I was unaware of a minimun spend to get cashback, and reading their terms and conditions all I can find is it states up to £35000 0.5% cashback gets paid .So can they withhold my earned cahback ?

Not sure what card you have or what your terms and conditions are, but the current version of the Platinum Everyday card says you get no cashback unless you spend £3000. Spend £3001 and you get 0.05% on the whole amount.

So they do this on current versions, but don't know about yours.

I think in the terms and conditions it says you have to have spent atleast £3000 for you to be eligible for cashback.

Depends on the card but on mine it states that if the cashback reward is less than £25 in the year the reward is forfeited.

Yes, if the T&Cs say so (which they probably do).

I have my latest Amex Platinum Cashback statement in front of me and under the 'cashback terms and conditions' section it says 'Please note, no rebate payment will be made if, in the 12 months preceding your Card Anniversary Date, the amount of rebate earned totals less that £25. '

why? i have the Amex card with no fee too. it's the first card i use...with Barclaycard Cashback as a backup. better CS and better rate than the Asda card if you hit it hard.
  • Hi,

    I've also just noticed this!
I took the American Express for the 5% cashback offer up to £2000 spend and planned not to use it after. Now, I have to spend another £1000 with 0.5% cashback. Fortunately, I have another 5 month to spend it. But still, it means that my overall cashback on the £3000 spent will be 3.5%, not the 5% I was hoping for. Still a very good cashback amount....

Used to have the same card. It was a condition since the outset. If you login online and go to the area where your total cashback this year is, it tells you how much more you have to spend to get the cashback

All in the small print and T&Cs

I think with Amex the sevice is second to none and that is the reason I have the card, I dont think I ever spend over £3000 per annum on it anymore but I know I can ring them up and they will sort out any problems quickly for me...
