New toner - Still not printing?

Hi, would appreciate some advice please
I have a Brother mono laser printer that ran out of toner. So I bought some new toner, but it wasn't a legitimate Brother one, and when I put the toner in the printer, the toner light is still on and the printer won't print anything.
I'm quite sure the toner cartridge is full, is it because it's not a legitimate Brother one?
Any help would be great thanks

Quite possibly. Have you spoke to the cartridge supplier? If it's guaranteed compatible with your model, then ask for a refund. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Ok thanks. I will buy a legitimate cartridge today and test it. If the legitimate one works, I'll see if the cartridge supplier has guaranteed compatibility. It's been over a few months though, so will have to think about refund.
Thanks macman.

Hi Debit
It's a HL-2135W mono laser printer and I think the ink is TN-2010.
At a bit of a loss to be honest, I'm going to try the Brother printer and take it from there.

Ok now I'm totally confused, I bought the legitimate ink and the toner light is still on?

I'll have a look thank you.
I tried to uninstall and reinstall the drivers of my printer, but I got an error message saying "Printer not ready" and for some reason, my usb cord doesn't seem to connect the printer - so I'm going to try a new usb cord too. Thanks for your help Debit.
Just out of interest, is there any way to reset a laptop back to factory settings and start again - a blank canvas?

I had the same problem with my HL-2250DN. The toner supplier sent me a fix to reset the printer; it will probably work for your printer and it's worth a try.
With the toner cartridge in the printer ....
1. Open the front cover and leave open while completing the following steps.
2. Turn the printer off using the switch at the back of the printer.
3. Hold the 'go' button while turning the printer on.
4. When all panel lights go on keep holding the go button and wait about 2 seconds then release the 'go' button (all panel lights should go off)
5. Press the 'go' button 2 times. (all panel lights should go on)
6. Wait about 2 seconds
7. Press the 'go' button 5 times.
8. After a few seconds the paper light will flash.
9. Wait about 10 seconds then close the cover. The ready light will flash then go steady.
EDIT: just found this same fix posted for your model. You can also use it to get extra pages out of the cartridge by using it when the printer decides the toner is low.0 -

Sorry, one more question, when I download something, all of a sudden I can't press "open" and when I press "save" it says it can't be downloaded. The second time I press it, the file will download but will save as a generic "file" under file type - instead of mp3 file/torrent/.iso etc etc, any ideas why?
