Chain Free advertised now the seller has found a house??

Hello all,
I've had a browse of the forum and can't find advice on this anywhere so i thought i'd ask.
Have offered on a property in June advertised with no onward chain. All wel and good. The legal side of things took longer than we would have liked (for a variety of reasons) and now the sellers "situation" has changed so they've found a property they want to move into (rather than moving in with a family member as stated when we viewed the house).
Now the exchange is being delayed because they want to exchange on their property according to my soliciter.
Question is, what can I do about this? i'm sure this is some sort of false advertising, but my soliciter has been useless as i've mentioned that the advert has said chain free a number of times!

Continue with the purchase, attempt to renegotiate the price, or pull out.

Me and my partner were in a similar position a few weeks ago. We were promised the vendor would break the chain as they wanted to buy somewhere very specific and we had a tight deadline due to a pregnancy.
Long story short they hadn't even checked their mortgage position prior to putting it on the market and we were looking at a three month wait for their fixed term mortgage to end. They only told us after we had the survey done, possibly expecting us not to walk away now we had spent money. But me and my partner are stubborn and don't like being lied to so we pulled out and found somewhere else.
If all depends on how much you like the house and whether you think they were doing it deliberately.0 -
Unfortunately this is becoming more common now to claim as no-chain and only to be told that the seller is looking elsewhere much later into the buying process.
But at the same time I do not think the offered price will change for a no-chain situation and hence does not merit a decreased offer when a chain is discovered.
The only option seems to be you could pull out losing the expenses paid so far. You might teach a lesson but for whose benefit?0 -
