Auto ignition not working on gas hob

We have a stoves gas hob, a few nights ago the auto ignition just started clicking of its own accord and would not stop until we switched the plug off under the unit. We assumed that as we have recently been having some decorating done the build up of fumes may have triggered the auto ignite.

However we came to turn the socket back on yesterday and now the ignition won't work at all. Has anyone any tips on what the problem could be or are we resigned to an expensive call out?

An expensive call out? It needn't be that expensive to call someone out. Wait until a weekday and ask the engineer to come whenever they have spare time during the week whenever they are in the area in exchange for a much lower charge. In the meantime just use another source of ignition.

The continuous clicking could be due to water ingress or a failed dial switch.

    Have you checked the fuse?

I Googled. This could be your solution.
