For service, Which? report places them in the bottom 6, with the rest of the Big Six as usual.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Would you trust a company that misleads its customers?

How do you mean? Customer service wise?

Most comparison sites rate suppliers for customer service.
You'll usually find SSE rated about the best of any of the big 6 :)

Yeah, but they also rate Ebico in 3rd place

And as we all know, Ebico use SSE for billing, customer services and most complaints handling.
I don't think many would rate Ebico very high for 'value for money' unless they are a low user, so I doubt that is bumping up their performance.

I didn't think much of them they were incapable of following a simple request when I moved in here. Result I immediately arranged to change to a new supplier.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.

I thought only a few of us knew that!
Maybe they score better because of the simplicity in that they have no SC and no tiered rates, and the same rate whether it's by DD or bill, prepayment or credit meter. This must translate into less scope for misunderstandings (by staff as well as cusomers!)
When I applied through Ebico, SSE claimed me as their own customer! SSE are quite incompetent, although all their mistakes have been resolved fairly well through email, and they are happy to call your mobile to make sure things have happened.
For example, they don't bother telling you on their website that you need to insert at least 4 digits when supplying a reading. So, input 143 from your new meter and it'll just reject it.
