Lost car log book - where can i get free a new one

I have to admit that this does really pee me off, I completely understand the charge is there to make sure you keep it safe so they don't have to re-print it again but £25?! That's enough money to feed me and my boyfriend for 2 weeks!!

I need to sign my car off the road as i can't afford to run it at the moment and because i need the 10 months left on my car tax back to live off but I can't do that until i get a new logbook for the 11 digit reference no so i can sorn it in the first place, and how do i get a new logbook? by paying £25 which I just don't have and can't get hold of, the only way i could get the spare money would be to get my car tax back but i can't do that without paying the £25 for the logbook!
I am in a pickle lol, It wouldn't be so bad if it was only say a £10 charge but as i said earlier, £25 will feed me and my boyfriend for a fortnight easily so although it may not seem like a lot of money to pay for your mistake to some people, to others it really really is!

Does anyone know how i can get round this or sorn my car somehow without having to pay the £25 admin charge thingy? I literally only need my 11 digit reference number as i'm not selling it anytime soon, does anyone know of any way i can get hold of that without buying a new logbook?

Why do you need a new logbook?
The reference number on your existing logbook will be OK.
