Your advice please..... how to organise a PC

With media these days I don't bother organising things too much!
just have 4 specific folders
Music
Pictures
Documents
Videos (split in to TV and Movie folders)
and 2 general folders
Downloads
Temp
The machine is a media centre and runs Linux
So I let "Plex" media centre worry about all the organising of the media and I've found that "less on the desktop" makes things a LOT easier. You use the menu search function to find things quicker than searching through menus or finding that specific icon in a desktop full of them!
As for backups I have a 3 stage approach!
1) Differential (only changed items) backup to another drive inside the machine (Daily)
2) Full image backup to external USB3 drive (Weekly)
3) Important files synced to cloud using SpiderOak (Continuous)Laters

This has been true for PC World/Amazon etc. throughout the life of Windows 8.
Prices of the Windows 8 Pro Upgrade do seem to be creeping though - just had an advertising email from Amazon which suggests it's now nearer £60 than the £50 which it was for most of the last year, and I think the non-Pro upgrade is now cheaper. Many thanks for explaining it. :money:
Shall bear it in mind if ever I upgrade our Winbox to 8.
Which makes sense because the previous pricing was the wrong way round, but that was sustained for many months. At today's prices I'd still pay the £7 or so extra for the Pro Upgrade version (£52.98 std, Pro just under £60)0 -
I don't even know what version of windows I have, I think its vista.
Can I, should I - upgrade?
What to, what would be the benefits?0 -
It's probably worth starting a new thread to ask that question - I imagine most people won't read this one.I don't even know what version of windows I have, I think its vista.

For what it's worth, the benefits of upgrading increase with older versions of Windows (like Vista) but the risk of having problems on older hardware also increases.
If you post a new thread, it would be good to mention what PC you have and some specification information - how much RAM memory you have is a key one for instance.0
