OS Daily 16th August 2013

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 16th August. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the
Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning :hello:

I had four teeth out yesterday (two wisdom and two back teeth), I was told not to do anything for the rest of the day. Sometimes I'm rushing about like a mad thing, wishing I could sit and spend a few hours catching up with my recorded programs. Well I had permission to do exactly that yesterday – and I was bored out of my brain :D I started early too, my appointment was 8.45am and I was home before 10am.

Now for my moan! I followed the dentist's instructions and did nothing (except make myself food, which took me so long to eat that the cuppa I made to go with it went cold, lol). But did anyone else sort out the chicken shed? No. Neither did they clean out Timmy's cage. No washing up done. One of them put some washing on, but left it in the machine and it's still there now. The floor needed hoovering - and still does. All mr tru did was complain about his headache. Am very angry  and haven't yet decided on suitable punishments/revenge tactics/ways to pee them off.

A very achy jaw woke me up at 4am, as soon as I sat up the pain stopped, led back down and it returned so I got up and had a drink and some painkillers. I've just poured some milk over a small bowl of cornflakes, I'm waiting for them to go soggy before I can eat them :D Mr tru wants to go shopping, I can't be bothered so I might have to explain my immense mouth pain to him (you know, the sore gums and achy jaw – that brufen has sorted out nicely ssshhhhhh!) and he'll go on his own :D

I need to clean out the animals and give Timmy a bit of fuss, he was ignored by me yesterday :o

I've used up all the dark blue yarn for my blanket and the shop didn't have any in stock I'll nip into town next week and try to hunt some down. There's a couple of new gift shops I'd like to visit too, might make a day of it.

Gosh, I'm an early one today.

Off to DS house to let carpet fitter in today with a side trip to the outlet centre in Chatham, not been there for ages so will have a look. Supplies laid on for our lunch apparently, so that OS!

Vintage event in margate at the weekend, might be interesting to have a look, we are so lucky where we are to have a good range of free things to attend.

Happy Friday to all and hope that things get better for those in need of good wishes.

    Good Morning everyone :j

Just a quickie from me today as I am trying to get everyone ready for our trip out this morning. It's a little bit drizzly but I'm sure it will cheer up by the time our bus comes.

Dentist went well yesterday. I ended up taking DD10 with me and she sang encouraging songs to me all the way there which did the trick! Hope your mouth feels better Tru, I think you are very brave.

Right, off to chivvy the kids and get the picnic done. Have a great day everyone.
    Cheers m'dears x

Oh no I wasn't brave - I was shaking, the dentist had to talk to me like I was 5 years old and the nurse held my hand and talked to me the whole time :D

I've already shown them the destruction, they all went "ooooh....aaahhhh" then carried on as normal. Mr tru is still asleep, I'm about to shred some paper. Our bedroom is above the kitchen, I've decided to use the very loud shredder on the kitchen table :)

    Morning all,

Raining here so washing will have to go on the airer, everything is covered in dust, yesterday while painstakingly stripping the paint off the walls I thought I would try the electric sander which worked a treat :T I have completly finished one wall, three to go, but despite having all the doors closed everywhere is covered and I have run out of hoover bags , will wipe all surfaces this morning and sweep through till I van get some bags, no point doing too much as I will carry on tomorrow.

Dinner tonight is chilli and wraps with sour cream, will make it nice and hot so looking forward to that.

DD and I completly forgot to pick her results up yesterday :o:o I feel terrible, the next time we can get there is Tuesday so we shall go then, her predicted grades were good so lets hope they were right !

Tru do a Tru on them :D

    Have good days all xx
  • Good morning everyone :)

Day off today and managed to sleep in until 8am which was wonderful and very late for me. DH is still asleep so just pottering around until he wakes up.

Hope tru and Dumpling are both recovering from dentist visits. I would be demanding TLC and doing nothing tru!

Have a load of bags in the hall to take to Oxfam and I want to take some large empty boxes to the skip too. My summer holidays declutter hasn't happened yet again so I feel like I have to make a bit of an effort this last weekend of the holidays :o

Have chicken thighs to go in the slow cooker for dinner and we will have a cooked breakfast mid morning for brunch. Am planning on another go at low carb ice cream today then I may have to give up if this one does not work and get DD to buy us an ice cream maker for Christmas. I saw one in Aldi for £19.99 that looked really good and forced DH to put it back when he wanted to buy it a couple of weeks ago. It is most definitely not a need but it would make a lovely gift between us.

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for anyone who needs or just wants them. Keep well and safe and have a super day :)

  • Looks like rain again today, still the gardens need it, especially now when the plants are fruiting, so it is a case of doing things in the house.
The kitchen is well organised, scrubbed to within an inch of its life and looks a lot better since I changed all of the cupboards around. :D I have loads to take to the charity shop and some stuff has gone into the car boot boxes, not much thrown away apart from one of my pie dishes that dropped out of my blooming useless hands :(

tru animated-smileys-sick-008.gif ouchins rest as much as you can, it really can zap your energy. As for the others I would not talk to them for days, just glare...............I do this with my lot who think that I can bounce back a day or two after I have had any medical procedure or operation  They usually get the message very quickly.

Plan for today is to start on the utility room and gut and organise that, I am on a roll this week but I have to stop when the pain gets bad that is why the kitchen has taken over four days to do :(

Home made chicken and sesame noodles with hoisin sauce and pancake rolls tonight

Right I am off to get started.

    Morning all,
getting ready for my mammogram this morning. Not looking forward to it as last time they didn't adjust the machine to my height and I was dangling by my bazooms. Not nice. This time I have an early appointment (last time was late afternoon) so maybe the operator won't be so stressed.

Washing is on, bed is stripped and I've put a load through the DW. We're forecast for rain, but it's clear atm.

I have the dentist early in Sept, but it's a new guy as the regular has had an operation and is retiring. I've waited 7 months already as they kept changing the dates - my cavity wasn't urgent enough apparently. I'll be glad to get my dodgy tooth sorted and DH will finally get his broken tooth crowned. He looks like a hillbilly when he smiles :o. I keep thinking we should hang the cost and go private, but the good places are always full.

Time to get a wiggle on and book the cab - Breast Test is not on any bus routes.

    Enjoy the day x
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.

    Morning all,

aww Tru you poor thing. I felt bad enough having one tooth out but I cant imagine how you felt having 4 out. I hope you feel better soon. Ive said it before and i'll say it again, i'd rather give birth than have treatment on my teeth. Dumpling I hope your recovering well too. Hugs to you both.

Its hammering down with rain here in my part of the world. I'm going to wait for a break in the rain clouds as I need to go to the Post Office again as I had a sale on Eb*y last night. I'll be damned if i'm getting wet though.

Half way through todays jobs. I want to give the 'Girls' a haircut at some point. Lucy dog seems to be moulting more than usual and I want to trim their feet hair and check their nails. Lucy dog I want to check all is well with her paws particularly. She's still not limping but she's reluctant to come up any steps. If I bribe her with a tasty treat she's still reluctant. Next stop I think will be the vets. Did I tell you that I think Millie dog is deaf? I used to think it was 'selective hearing' but i'm not so sure now.

Yes I think a trip to the vet might be in order at some point.

    Hunters chicken for tea tonight.

    Have a great day all,

    Morning all

tru let's hope the shredder is as loud as possible :D I might try that trick , I have the same problem , despite 4 of us in the house I was the only one who cleaned the house top to bottom yesterday , no one else lifted so much as a finger  Although dd1 has done some ironing today :T

redruby I did wonder about your dd and her results ,as we took dd2 for her AS results yesterday . I bet your dd has done really well :)

Day off today , have already cleaned up and tidied . It's raining and I really wanted to get into the garden and do some more tidying . I'm getting a lot of raspberries, strawberries and courgettes from the garden at the moment , although my courgettes are dwarfed by next doors lol they are the size a toddler :rotfl:

Have a good day everyone xx
