How do I get a copy of my residence order?

Ok so i'm applying for first time passports for myself and children. I am filling out the childrens and notice it says if a court order is in place they need documentation.

Basically I was married to the father of my elder 2 children (wasnt married when 1st child was born in 1998 but married in 1999 before 2nd child was born). He became violent and shook our son, he was declared a schedule 1 offender and sent to prison. This was in 2000, in 2001 i'm pretty sure I was granted residence and/or prohibited steps order. He has not seen the children since 2001 and has no contact.

My problem is I dont ever remember receiving a copy of the residence order and my old solicitir has now destroyed all my files as its been over 10 years. I also got burgaled in 2005 and everything was taken, all paperwork etc.

So how do I find out if a residence order was put in place (which i assume would have been due to my ex being so violent) and how do I get a copy of it. If I ring the court who dealt with it will they be able to re-issue a copy after all this time or do I just not send a copy in and not mention it on the passport form?

Also it asks on the form for the date of marriage of the childs father to their mother but it asks nowhere about date of divorce so will they presume im still married to him? confused

Didn't want to read and run...I really don't know, but if you ring the court and ask, presumably you've got nothing to lose?

Wow that was much easier than expected, rang the court and explained the situation and they said I probably would need a copy. They took childrens names and D.O.B and found it on the system. The lady gave me the case number and confirmed a residence order was made and I need to put it in writing that I need a copy with a £5 postal order stating that I need it to appy for a passport as this will get it sent back much quicker :)

Well done you! I'm really glad it was straightforward.
