BG putting me back on Econamy 7 without telling me...WTD?

I rang up British Gas in March to tell them that I did not need to be on econamy 7 so they put me on a normal tarriff and sent out a new key for my meter.
All was well until...well I dont know when but sometime between a few weeks after being on a standard tarriff and this week when I found out that I am on econamy 7 again without being told. Only found out because I realised I was using mroe electric and not using the tumble drier at all so thought Id check the meter.
Rang them up and they told me that they cant change me back to e7 and was I sure I am on it? I told them I was very sure, unless you pay 12p and 4p for electric on a standard tariff?
They, what I think, fobbed me off saying that it would be because I charged the key up in different places, (only once have I charged it somewhere else) and doing that sends different information to the meter. They also said it seems like this happened a while back....
They also said they would get someone to check it out and and I was to charge the key with £1 a few times at the same place...not possible as I dont have the money to do that, only once a week. He added that if it has definately happened, then I will get a refund for the difference.
I will charge the key on monday and see what happens, but what should I do? I have gas water and heating and really cant make E7 work, I am now paying alomst £10 a week again and not using the tumble. Did end up saving about £3 a week being on a standard tariff.
