Scratched my car. How will this cost to fix?

Options
I scratched the front of my car when I struggled to park next to a wall. Most of the scruff/scratch looks white but one scratch looks quite deep.

Is this going to cost me lots of money to fix?

How long is your piece of string?
  • I'm just looking for a ballpark figure so that I don't get ripped off. Is there a way of posting photos on here? Would that help?

post them on a free image site and post a link to them.
The answer at the moment is "it depends".

Depends on the car, The actual panel damage and the paint.

Some metallic paints and some reds can be a bit obvious.

Unless it's a new car and a big scratch you're best going to a local motor shop and get some touch-up paint. A professional paint job on an older car could cost more than it's worth.

I'm guessing from the description, this was done trying to park nose first into a tight space?

So what are we looking at?

Rough guess..... I reckon the corner of front bumper, probably on the plastic, little/no damage to metal work, but possible damage to bumper mounts/clips.

Similar damage to mine in 2009, caused by an elderly gent trying to park nose first next to me at Tescos (i'd reversed in), the total came to £600, to fill, paint and blend.
This was via insurance, so I reckon private it would have been £200-£250.

Edit - Just saw the image

  • I was parking on my new drive and got in a bit of a muddle largely because someone was parked over part of my dropped kerb. I thought I could get in okay but clearly not! I scraped along my own garden wall so it's just my car that is damaged.

Most of the scratch looks white but there is a bit that looks deeper and silver.
