Though the above won't wake the viewing card up, that has to be left in the box for up to 72 hours.

Or connect it to a phone line and when it does its call back (which will be almost immediate) it will check and "wake up" the card..

Only if you go through menus and do a new installation it may do it sooner.

The box will only do a call back if instructed over the air to do so.

Just plugging it into the phoneline and switching on won't do this and certainly not with a ended subs box / card.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

When the card is not functioning correctly.. Ie not recieving channels or needing paired to a new box it will phone home to check subscription details.. This is how your sky card pairs to a new sky box. If it is not connected to the phone line you have to phone and give details to sky who then MAUNUALLY pair the card to the new box .

Recently had this problem when my box knackared and had to use my old box. Could not access all the channels so called customer services. I was told they would do it but would take up to 24 hours to complete and its quicker just to plug the box in for 5 mins. I plugged in the box and within 15 mins I had all my channels back and the annoying "card isnt paired to box" message dissapeared.

The engineer also said this when he installed my SKY+ and the only reason they have to do the call back instead of the box is to verify the installation has been completed by them. I also had to do a software upgrade (using method described) before my card would activate in the box.

But that is for a subscription card.

Anyway, we are getting Off Topic, the OP wanted to know why they could only get BBC1 2 and ITV, that is certainly down to old software, which may, or may not be cured by the forced download procedure, it depends on how old the software is, and which make model of Sky Box it is.

Some receivers simply will not update by this method.

Not true, you need a card to get Channel 4 .. Ch 5's ( all 3 of them ) and Sky 3, all other channels that are free to air, don't need a card.

And as bextech said the op needs to keep the old (yellow house sky card) viewing card in the receiver to reactivate it..

Couldn't resist... Must be the troll in me :)

Once again .. you have completely missed the point.

The OP said that he/she can only get BBC1 BBC2 and ITV ( NO OTHERS ) on his / her Sky Box, this is due to the Sky Box being out of service for a long period of time and consequently missing software updates.

Now until that is fixed, there isn't any point in using a card of any description, because putting it in very simple terms, the channels available on a card number from 4 upwards, so even with an activated card, they still will not get any of them.

Methinks you really need to go to bed, get some sleep, get up refreshed, have a think about it and the penny may just eventually drop.

Do you have a page with a list that wont do it... I was led to believe that the updates were rolled out over BOX versions at first to check for bugs (something sky didnt do with the SKY+ update last month and got loads of complaints). Then when it deemed to be fine it was then used for the Forced download method.. Thats why forcing a download might only get you as far as a previous version not the newest. But as sky update the software a few times a year then the last software should still be better than software over 5 years old.

Sorry, I don't but a Pace 2600 is one example of a Sky Receiver that will not update via the forced method, it seems Sky only broadcast the updates about once a month, and then only for about 24 hours.

There are other receivers in the same situation, but I cannot recall which ones.

I was wondering because I have an old pace box that wont update but Sky told me it was a flash problem and the box was goosed..
